Global Scientific Ambassador

Michael in Changshu, China

As a prominent Western scientist working at both the T.D. Lee Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and U. Mass, I am a scientific ambassador who seeks to foster collaboration and cooperation between members of the Chinese and Western physics communities. My work in this context carries on the tradition of my Princeton Ph.D. advisor Sam Treiman and the TDLI namesake Tsung-Dao Lee, who worked together on the CUSPEA program while I was a Ph.D. student. The CUSPEA program was designed to provide opportunities for talented Chinese early career physicists to receive training and mentoring from top physicists in the USA, constituting an early example of bridge building between the two countries. I see this ambassador work as a way to honor the legacies of Treiman and Lee, as well as the career-long interconnection of my own scientific work and that of colleagues, post-docs, and students from China.
